There’s something about the holidays that invites silliness, right? Am I alone in this thinking? I enjoy a good pun any time of year, but I especially love and appreciate the Christmas-y ones. There’s no shortage of groan-inducing jokes out there either (a quick internet search will show you that). A couple silly decorations will fit right in on your Christmas tree, plus they’ll provide a nice chuckle. Keep reading to see how to make these punny Christmas ornaments, with printable designs!
Materials
- Punny Christmas ornaments printable template
- Wood craft rounds or wood ornaments*
- White acrylic paint and paintbrush
- Scissors
- Twine or string
- Mod Podge and paintbrush
*If you’re using the wood ornaments rather than the wood rounds, print the template out at 90% size, as the ornament-shaped rounds are slightly smaller than the regular wood rounds.
Step
Download the punny Christmas ornaments printable template, and print on white cardstock. Cut out the designs, cutting just inside the outline of each.
Step
Paint the wood rounds with white acrylic paint, and set aside to dry.
Step
After the painted wood has dried, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front of the rounds. Lay down one of the printed designs, then apply another thin layer on top of the paper. Let dry.
Step
If you’re using wood rounds without holes in them, drill a small hole at the top of each of the punny ornaments. Finally, string with twine or thread, and hang on your tree!
I think my favorite one is “deck the hogs.” It just doesn’t get much goofier than that. These ornaments would be fun to make and give to friends and family, too! After all, who doesn’t love a good pun for the holidays?
The terrible jokes don’t stop with these punny Christmas ornaments! Check out these very silly cards that you can download and use for free!
I am so excited to have found your darling punny ornaments!!! I am in the process of making some —right now.
Before I start the ModPodge process, do you have any final tips or thoughts? I am a bit nervous to use this because I have not ever tried it before, but I am more than motivated because I love your ornaments so much.
Thanks a bunch for this darling printable gift!
