Stylish jewelry usually comes with a matching price tag, which can be disheartening if you’re shopping for a Christmas gift on a budget.
But that doesn’t mean you need to forgo the thoughtful present that you had your heart set on! There are plenty of ways to DIY pretty accessories that’ll wow your friends, and I’ll share one with you today using one of my favorite materials – leather. Keep reading to see how I made these affordable DIY leather earrings.
Materials
- Leather scraps in black and tan
- Leather punch
- Leather glue
- Small and large square cookie cutters
- Craft knife
- Jump rings
- Shepherd earring hooks
- Jewelry pliers
Step
Trace around your small square cookie cutter onto the back of your tan leather.
Step
Trace around your large square cookie cutter onto the back of your black leather.
Step
Using a craft knife, cut out the squares you traced in steps 1 and 2.
Step
Trace around your smaller square cookie cutter in the middle of your black leather square.
Using your traced markings as a guide, cut out the center of your black square so that only the outline remains. You should now have a large black square outline and a smaller tan square.
Step
Glue the black square outline to the tan leather square so that they partly overlap.
Step
Punch a hole in the top of your two squares.
Step
Attach a jump ring to the leather squares.
Step
Attach a shepherd earring hook to the jump ring.
Then repeat Steps 1 to 7 to create a second earring.
Leather scraps are cheap and available in a myriad of colors, so don’t hold back! Use different shapes and leather finishes to make a completely unique set of earrings suit your recipient’s personal taste (and make a pair for yourself while you’re at it!)
