Every now and then, a particular shape or design takes the internet by storm (think pineapples) and lately I’ve been noticing these all-seeing eye shapes everywhere. So I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and do a fun DIY all-seeing eye mirror. Keep reading to check out the easy tutorial!
Materials
- 14 inch embroidery hoop
- 7 inch embroidery hoop
- 7 inch mirror
- (8) 3 inch long dowels, 3/8 inch wide
- Black spray paint
- Hot glue gun
- Hand saw
- Pencil, paper and ruler (not pictured)
Step
Begin by unscrewing and removing the exterior parts of the embroidery hoops. Place the two interior hoops on a piece of white paper as shown above. Trace the inside of the smaller hoop and use a ruler to mark the center point. Lay the ruler across that point and mark the spot that the ruler crosses the larger hoop. Do this on the other side as well.
Step
Cut the hoop at those two points to form the top semicircle. Repeat step 1 on the other side of the hoop to create the bottom of the eye.
Step
Arrange the semicircles around the smaller hoop to make sure everything fits together nicely. Use a hot glue gun to glue it together at each of the connection points.
Step
Mark a reference point where the hoop and the top semicircle meet, and measure from that point around as shown above. Mark at the 1 inch point, the 3 inch point, the 5 inch and the 7 inch point. Repeat this in the opposite direction.
Step
Glue the dowels on at those points. Remove any stray glue strings.
Step
Spray paint the whole thing black, using two thin coats.
Step
Once it’s dry, flip it over and glue the small hoop to the mirror. You may also want to glue a piece of wire at the top of the back side of the mirror so that you can easily hang it on the wall.
The finished piece is oh-so-trendy, with a funky look that’s sure to garner compliments.
I love that it’s functional too… it’s a great spot to check your hair as you run out the door in the morning!
Feel free to get creative with the paint color; it would look great in a brighter color, or you might even consider staining it instead. So many ways to customize… have fun!
