Everyone loves a good Christmas village or little winter scene to display during the season! I love how it adds a whimsical touch and how easy it is to create your very own without having to buy the expensive sets in stores. Simply using stackable wooden blocks and floral wire, you can create beautiful silouettes of trees to capture a magical winter in your own home.
Materials
- Wooden blocks (I found mine in the children’s section of the dollar store!)
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
- Nail
- Hammer
- Optional: hot glue gun
Step
Choose the various geometric shapes of the wooden blocks you would like to use as your base for the trees.
Step
Simply hammer your nail into the center of the blocks and then remove. This will create a perfect hole for your wire to sit in. Note: Make sure your nail is about the same diameter as the floral wire.
Step
Cut a section of wire from the roll, any length you choose. You can create variation by cutting short and long sections for your trees.
Step
Create a basic outline of a tree with your wire.
Step
Create grooves and waves by bending the wire around the top of where the treetop would be.
Step
Slide your wire into the hole that you created using your nail. Optional: To really secure your wire into the wood base, place a small dab of hot glue into the hole, insert your wire and hold until the glue has completely dried.
Step
Repeat for as many trees as you would like!
I appreciate the simplicilty and abstract nature of these trees. The geometric wood bases combined with the black and silver wire create a very modern and scandinavian vibe. Simply add mini houses or even build your own with the remaining wood blocks for a contemporary Christmas! Our kids love this project because it’s one they can play with and interact with all season long. Place with greenery on your dining room table for a unique centerpiece or on a credenza for playful decor.
