Napkin rings are the type of detail that can set the tone for the table at a dinner party or holiday meal. These glitzy beauties that I’ve created will add a touch of sparkle to your table, taking any old fabric napkin to the next level. And it’s an incredibly simple project! Read on to check out the glam final product.
The pressed glitter ultimately has a sort of disco ball effect, making them perfect for any occasion that might require a bit of extra sparkle.
Materials
- White Sculpey (or any oven-bake polymer clay)
- Silver glitter
- A toilet paper roll or two
- A knife
Step
Begin by rolling out a piece of Sculpey clay until it is about 1/2 an inch in diameter and 6 inches long. Flatten it out a bit on each side, so it is squared off instead of completely round.
Step
Gently wrap it around a toilet paper roll, using the roll as a sizing guide.
Step
Cut the excess overlapping clay using your knife.
Step
Attach the two ends of the clay by dragging small bits of clay back and forth. Then smooth it out so there are no visible bumps or lumps.
Step
Next, pour glitter onto the clay. Press it down gently so it sticks but doesn’t ruin the shape of the clay. Continue this process until the entire ring is covered. Then remove it from the toilet paper roll and cover the inside too.*
*Note: If the napkins you’ll be using are made of a delicate fabric, you may want to skip adding glitter to the inside of the ring so the napkin doesn’t catch on it.
Make a few more napkin rings using this same process, and then bake them according to the directions on the clay packaging.
And that’s it. I told you they were easy! These would look lovely with gold glitter too… or you could even make a few silver and a few gold to give your table a mix of different metallics.
You might consider experimenting with the clay color as well! Happy crafting everybody.
