How To Clean Burnt Food from a Pan

by on Aug 13, 2010

Look, I’m no cook. My mom wasn’t, and I’m not. Thus, there are many burnt pans in my world. The cook around here is the Mr. and he gets super annoyed when I get preoccupied and let food burn in a pan. (What normal person wouldn’t?) I discovered a little secret if I can get to it before he does.

Silver metallic pan sitting on top of a table with a metal counter.

According to pan burner Sarah Meyer Walsh of The District Domestic, you simply

douse a thick layer of baking soda all around the pan, then drizzle with just a little bit of water (almost like making it into a paste) and then let the baking soda work it’s magic overnight.

Or,

If you need the pan right away, dribble a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid into the pan, add hot water to cover the bottom, then place the pan on the stove over medium heat.  Bring it to a boil and let it “cook” for about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and try the scrubbing process again.

I love getting tips from those who do love working their magic in the kitchen. Now, if you need to know how to rip out a seam, call me.
