I love those cute and quirky vintage pieces that are truly unique, but sadly no longer serve a purpose that they once did. Take for example this darling sewing basket that was given to me. I couldn’t say no, it had way too much potential – but I don’t sew and I had no actual use for it. So, I decided to turn this sewing basket into a 4-legged llama planter. Yes, llama planter. Just bare with me for a minute!
Materials
- Pine Board
- Pencil
- Band Saw or jigsaw
- Drill with 1/2″ forstner bit
- Sand Paper
- Cloth
- Wood Stain
- Thrifted sewing basket (or bucket, or whatever fun container you can find)
Process
1. Trace your shape or design on the pine board – we chose a playful llama, but you can choose any kind of animal or thing you choose!
2. Cut out your design using the band saw (for the eye, we used a drill).
3. Measure the thickness of the basket and cut a notch out of your design.
4. Sand until smooth and use damp cloth to clean excess dust.
5. Stain the wood or leave natural, this is a personal preference.
6. Simply slide your design onto your basket and voila!
I’m sure I could have plopped a plant in the basket and called it a day, but I love the challenge of breathing new life into a piece. And so the llama head gave this 4-legged planter a little personality and whole lot of fun (or a plain weird factor – I’m ok with that)! I love it and my plant seems to be enjoying it’s new ride! Now, tell me, how do you feel about it?!
Wow! So totally cute! Great imagination!
