Starbursts and typography. Two words that were oh-so-hot for artwork in 2011. Another two words that came to mind rounding up our hands-down-favorite art/wall projects were ‘unusual uses.’ From cupcake liners to shoe polish, the materials used by these creative individuals was nothing less than inspirational. And did we mention that the resulting artwork was outstanding as well?

Alisa’s eye-catching and dramatic text art was made using SHOE POLISH.
For our first starburst entry, Holly turned humble clothes pins into something grand.
Speaking of humble, to make her starburst mirrors, Alicia used leftover PVC from a sprinkler installation.
Allison used Benjamin Moore Paint chips to make these two lovely pieces.
Plastic shopping bags were used to make this abstract wall piece.
We loved this sweet and affordable artwork that was made using potatoes.
We go from spuds to cupcakes. Cupcake LINERS that is.
Saving the biggest project for last…Jason used 1/2″ and 3/4″ thick chunks of MDF to fashion a sculptural wall.
