The season of gift-giving is fast approaching, and if your family is anything like mine, we like to make sure all the out-of-towners get their Christmas gifts while they are visiting for Thanksgiving. And since a drive/flight home usually results in crushed boxes and torn gift tags, I thought I’d make some that were a little more suitcase friendly while being easy enough for any gift-giving occasion. Easy projects are the best holiday projects, and this is certainly one of those. For this ribbon gift tag, you need:
- Ribbon
- Iron-on Transfer Paper (found at craft stores or office supply departments)
- Printer (check Transfer Paper for printer type required)
- Iron
- Press Cloth
First, print your desired tag labels on a sheet of transfer paper according to the transfer paper directions. Make sure the text is mirrored before you print it! I just used Word Art in Microsoft Word to make my labels, making sure they wouldn’t be bigger than my ribbon.
For ribbon, make certain you don’t use something that can melt or shrink under the heat of the iron.
Cut a label from your transfer sheet and place it text-side-down on your ribbon. I chose to label the back side of the ribbon. Use a press cloth (I used fabric) between your iron and label, and have at it.
When you peel the paper off, your image is left on your ribbon, all ready to be tied to a gift box or whatnot.
Simple and satisfying, right? Loop it around gift bag handles, tie it to the neighbor’s cookie-in-a-jar gift… it will add that extra special touch to whatever you are giving.
