Amazing Deck Makeover

By DIY Maven

before a patio is made over

Mary Leigh had enough of her ho-hum deck. Not only was it tired and worn, part of it overlooked a parking lot. Adding some weather-resistant fabrics and rug as well as traditionally indoor elements gave this overlooked area new life.

How to Clean Mildew and Algae Off of Your Patio

By ModHomeEcTeacher

 created at: 2009-05-17

Good thing I clicked on TipNut.com before renting a power washer to clean our concrete patio and pool deck. There's more than a year's worth of mildew and/or algae buildup that has spread around the concrete surface. I remember that my grandmother's front steps looked like this.  » READ MORE

DIY Modern Birdbath.

By Chrisjob

Here's a great DIY project that allows you to create a contemporary (no Doric columns here) birdbath with only $20 in materials from your local hardware store. It seems quite large as well, and won't break your back when moving or restyling your patio.

Materials:

  • 1/2" galvanized pipe
  • 1/2" galvanized floor flange
  • Recycled glass bowl
  • Plumbers epoxy
  • Scrap wood
  • Large, heavy hammer

Spaceless: Hideaway Deck Furniture.

By Chrisjob

Designer Sandy Lam is a master of the obvious but the not yet done, what some may call the "why didn't I think of that" approach. Case in point: Spaceless, deck furniture requiring no storage space. Goodness, I hope this is DIYable. I have high hopes...if I ever get to own a deck. Via.

Grill Better.

By Chrisjob

Disclaimer: Though I do identify as a male, I am by no means a suburban beef-worshipper with a tacky apron that won’t let anyone else’s spatula touch my holy grates. But as with sautéing, roasting, broiling, braising, and the like, grilling is an essential and obtainable mode of cooking for the home chef. It is, in fact, probably humankind’s oldest, and most misunderstood, method of heat application.

creaky stairs

By megrockstar

So, Todays question....

I have stairs from my 3 season room down to the patio. The stairs are new but they wobble a little bit and make me a little sketched to use them. On inspection they said to put a one or two crossbars to the ground and that will stabilize them. What does this mean and how?

I figure this is something I can finally do!

thanks to everyone for your awesome help. I'm so excited to have all these friendly minds to pick
