Master Bathroom Remodel
By tmgeorgoI haven't posted anything in a while, but I have been busy around my house and last year I tackled the biggest project I've ever done: remodeling our master bathroom. It was a project I initially didn't want to do, but after I had bids of $16k to $26k it was clear that I couldn't afford to hire someone to do it and that if we wanted a new bathroom, we'd have to DIY. It was a decision I don't regret. My brother, father and I worked nearly every weekend day for six months and many late weekend nights to complete this, and it really pushed all of us outside our normal comfort zone. We learned all sorts of things about carpentry, drywall, tiling, plumbing, and most importantly, what a bad job some "pro" contractors will do to your house.

Refinish Your Wood Front Door
By ModHomeEcTeacher

Long ago, I watched out next door neighbor painstakingly strip the paint off, sand, stain and seal his west-facing front door. The next year he was sanding and refinishing it again. What gives? I wondered. He said the hot afternoon sun had fried the finish. He was now wiser and decided to try marine Spar, a urethane varnish used for boats. He then made it through 2 full summers without » READ MORE
Is that a boulder in your living room or are you just happy to see me?
By DIY Maven
Gibson Architects were faced with a monumental task. Their building site for this Colorado home was at an altitude of 8500 feet on a granite outcropping. But a bunch of ginormous boulders weren't going to stop them. No, no, no. They just incorporated the rocks into the home's design. The result is nothing less than amazing. Take a look:

'Slim' Bookcase Turns Books Into Art
By DIY Maven

As the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover, but sometimes the covers are so pretty. For the amount of effort that goes into producing such things, it really is a shame to hide them on traditional book shelves. With the clear acrylic Slim bookcase, available at Yanko Design, we can now flaunt all those covers. How To: Add Some Flair to Your Valentine's Day Dinner Candles
By ChrisjobGot some special dinner plans come February 14th? A homemade candlelit dinner, perhaps?
Then, show your sweetheart that she or he is extra special by giving those tapers a little flair, with the help of your trusty hot glue gun.
"All you need is some transparent paper, thin wire and some glue.Cut out a heart in the paper and glue the wire all around the edge of the heart. You can also use a hot glue gun. Leave a long part of the wire at the end of the heart. Take the long part of the wire and twirl it around the base of the candle, making sure the paper is not to close to the flame." » READ MORE

Tord Boontje's Rain or Shine Chandelier DIY-able???
By DIY MavenTord Boontije's 'lyrical reinterpretation of the chandelier' consists of a metal structure (I'm guessing the globe part--with tail--in the middle that houses the bulb) that is wrapped in crocheted cotton, organza, silk and fabric flowers. Call me crazy, but I think this could be reasonably replicated. AND for a fraction of the cost of the original which clocks in at just under 5 grand. *gulp* Where would we start? With a white paper lantern? » READ MORE
