hey paperbirds, the link buttons should show up if you first highlight text that you'd like to turn into a link.  have you tried that yet?  let me know if that does not work for you.

hey paperbirds, I just read through your question.  are you using safari?  If not, then when adding links, try highlighting the text you want to become a link, then click on the little chain-link icon in the text editor.  you can insert your link there.  If you're using safari, then you should be able to add html directly.  Let me know.  Thanks!  Sorry about the difficulty.
