2 Easy DIY Wall Decorating Ideas

By ModHomeEcTeacher

Checking in with ApartmentTherapy-Chicago this morning, these two walls by decorator Lindsay Segal, screamed "DIY ME!"  Quick, easy and cheap--take a short stretch of wall, give it some bold horizontal stripes to make the statement, and then add some monochromatic pieces in front of it. Wow!  The second one requires my favorite activity---thrifting.

Head over to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any other 2nd hand dive and stock up on plates, plates, plates. For more photos of Lindsay's fun and budget friendly style, click here.

I love the collection of plates and the colors. Did you use wire hangers or adhesive hangers plate hangers to hang them.

I did something like that in my tiny bathroom with kitchy souvenir plates. They kind of look like they cascade from above the door over to the next wall. I'll have to take some pics and post them once we get a day with good light!

D by D- I agree with you on the country thing. I was thinking that maybe they could be arranged more ordered or symmetrical to look more modern. I can't pull off the dishes thing either but she did a nice job with everything else around it. Thanks for your comments. :)

I love the way the plates look on the wall.... but when I do it, it doesn't work. I am anti-country when it comes to design so it feels wrong in my house. BUT I do collect one-of-a-kind dishes. My cupboard is full of individual dishes (plates, cups, even silverware) that I have collected from thrift stores over the years. It always starts conversation when I have guests over... " I get the pink floral plate!" lol

On another note, I also REALLY love how that room mixes styles so well. The rustic bird cage next to the mod chairs, the straight lines against the rounded edges, and the very DIY-looking light fixture!!

Oh I love it all. The stripey wall is great too, I wanna do it in pink and brown and put my pink vase collection in front if it.
