It sounds a lot like Trading Spaces.  A LOT of those people weren't happy with the results.  Apparently, the rooms usually looked cheap and very amateurish.  Of course, the budget wasn't the same as Designers Challenge.

I did hear about the Extreme Makeover problem a while back.  That was really tragic for those kids and I hope ABC did something for them, although I doubt it. All I can say to that family that got the house is what goes around, comes around, and karma will prevail.

This looks virtually identical to a dresser that we were given by my in-laws when they got new furniture, and they got it when they were married in 1953, so my guess is that it's from around that time. It's a good solid piece of furniture that we had for years.  Good luck with it and be sure to post a photo of the end result!
