Super Bowl Party Time!

By DIY Maven

By nature, I'm a baseball fan. But this year, with the addition of Brett Favre to the Viking's roster...well, I must admit, I've taken notice of the goings on on the gridiron. And what's happened to my fellow Minnesotan Packer-fan friends has been is quite entertaining. So, I'm hoping for a Super Bowl appearance for the 'old man' and the Vikes--if for nothing else to see the veins pop in Cheeseheads' temples everywhere. Of course an appearance by the purple and gold will mean some serious partying come game day. To help us out with the planning, we, as always, turn to Celebrations.

Potato Soup with "The Works" Bar

First up, their suggestion for a Souper Bowl Party. (I LOVE this idea.) Choose from Potato Soup with "The Works" Bar, Lobster Bisque with Luxury Ingredient Toppings Bar, or--for my Favre-hater friends--Cheddar Cheese Soup with Spicy Topping Bar.

Host a Super Bowl Potluck Party

If soup isn't your thing, then a Super Bowl Pot Luck is the way to go. From dips & chips, hot appetizers & cold appetizers to wings & things, Celebrations have tips to put it all together.

Super Bowl Cupcakes

No party would be complete without desert. And the perfect desert for any party is cake of the cup variety. Celebrations gives us seven to choose from, including a pizza cupcake and a hamburger cupcake, but this football cupcake gets my vote for the darling-est.

Of course the 'Cheerleader Cupcake' is pretty cute.....hey! What the WHAT?!?!

So Bruno, are you a big Viking fan?

Yeah, I doubt he'll be back. Although I can't imagine he wants to end his career on a post-season, game-losing interception. If he doesn't come back, I predict we are screwed.

Bruno--did you see his interview before the game? Sounds like he's made up his mind already and will not be coming back. He looked/sounded tired. And then the beating he took on the field....nasty. It was hard watching his wife's reactions. He does live and breathe the game.

Maven: Agreed - the Vikes lost this one - deservedly. Stilla  great season for them, and I - for one - home Brett comes back.

Maven, I have to agree with you. A sad day for the Vikes. And yeah, even Favre!

Bruno--I really don't think this post had anything to do with the events of last night. Fumbles, bad calls, 12 men in the huddle...and what with Farve passing the ball and not running to get in field goal position?! No, t'was not me!

He's so hard not to love. He's an awesome guy with an awesome attidude for life and just  happens to love playing football and is darn good at it. He's fun to watch whether on the feild or off. I cried with him when his Dad passed away and prayed for his wife when she had cancer. I've never met him, but he's just the kind of guy you know if you met he'd treat as though you were his friend.

Kind of like when I saw Ahman Green coming out of Eppley Airport in Omaha, while waiting for my hubby whom I found out happened to be on the same flight. I didn't want to Hoot or get into Green's space, since he was with his family, so when I caught his eye (he was on the sidewalk just about two feet from our car door, pre 9-11) I gave a thumbs up and mouthed "go Green Bay". He smiled really big to let me know he "got it".

My hubby has been a Packer fan for over fifty years now. Was six when he saw his first football game. I can't remember which one, but he can tell you all about it. He's been a die hard Packer fan since. He still like Brett too, but of course would choose the Packers to win over the Vikes even with Favre playing for them. The Packers are the only team owned by the people, so in my book they are the true American team.

DM: That's very nice of you! Maybe it's because of the border rivalry up here, but many MN Packer fans cannot--will not--forgive Mr. Favre for what he's done. Like I said in the post, I find it all very entertaining! ;) A friend of mine who is a DIE HARD Cheesehead (which I say with most love and respect) handled the situation perfectly: She had her fingernails manicured with a gold and green motif and the nail of her big toe of her right foot in purple and gold with the number '4'. She still has love in her heart for Brett!

I'm not really a football fan so to speak, but I am a Packer fan. That meaning I don't watch just any game because it's football, but I really enjoy watching the Pack play. Call me a cheese head if you like. It won't bother me one bit. Being a Packer fan for thirty years now it pretty much fits. Hubby even owns a teeny tiny bit of them.

As for Favre, I feel it turned out for him and Packers farily though I must admit it hurt a little too. I can see where some don't agree, but he did "retire" two years in a row. The last time the Pack just happened to have a replacement all ready to go by the time Brett realized he had at least another year in him. So it was really too late. Yes, I felt terrible. I love Favre and love the Packers. Our library is decorated in Packer memorobilia with a photo taken of my hubby kissing the ground in front of Lambo feild. To me the Packers and Brett seemed a part of one another. I'm still a Packer fan and a Favre fan. So Go Vikes! My high school were the Vikings, but blue and gold. So yeah, I can root for the Vikes. Easy peasy.
