Help for Haiti

With all eyes on Haiti this week after that country suffered a tragic earthquake, many people are wondering how they can help. Here's a list of ways you can donate to the relief effort; I'll try to keep this updated (send me suggestions at bruno@curbly.com, or add them in the comments):

• To make an automatic $10 donation to the Red Cross, text "HAITI" to 90999; the money will be charged directly to your cell phone bill.
• You can also donate to the Red Cross by phone: 314-516-2782 or 314-516-2800
• Donate $5 to musician Wyclef Jean's organization by texting YELE to 501501 (learn more at www.yele.org)
• CBS's list of charities offering aid to Haiti
• UNICEF Haiti Earthquake relief: www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake

Finally, be careful when you donate; the FBI is warning people that human tragedies like this one sometimes spawn scams and false solicitations. Follow these steps to make sure your support goes to those who need it.
