Innovation and value are important to me as well. For something like a #2 phillips head screwdriver (easily the most used tool I own) I bought the best I could--a Craftsman Professional. I've had that screwdriver and the others that came in the set for almost 15 years and they are just as good now as they were the day I bought them. In the value for the money dept, I think my Craftsman Nextec cordless drill fits that category. I got it for $70 on sale which was just a steal in my eyes. It's lightweight and comfortable to hold, does the job fine, and came with two Li-ion batteries and a recharger.
Pretty much all of my hand tools are Craftsman, but I do have a few Ace Pro Series, Husky Pro, Stanley and Kobalt here and there. I try to pick tools that are durable, well made, and ergonomic if I know I'm going to use them over and over. I don't own a lot of power tools, but the ones I do are made by Craftsman, Makita, Shop-Vac, and Black and Decker (before they colored everything red. :)

I mainly use power-tools and always look out for innovation and value for money. The tool that I love best is the Festool Domino jointer, they don't come cheap but it is truly a fantastic piece of kit for joinery.... and very well made.
But my favorite brand is Makita.

Count my hubby and myself in with you and prefering Craftsman tools. Both power and hand tools. I even carry a ten foot Craftsman tape measure in my purse at all times. I wouldn't leave home without it.
