Pantone selects the color of the year
By Ken Hoyt
According to Pantone the color of 2008 is PANTONE® 18-3943 BLUE IRIS. Which is a complete about face from their prediction for 2007, a browned-out red called Chili Pepper...
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® explains, "As a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic. Look for it artfully combined with deeper plums, red-browns, yellow-greens, grapes and grays."
I like it. I like it most of all because it's a contrast to the "big red wall" that has become a decorating cliché. The New York Times weighs in, somewhat heavily. It didn't get a lot of love on this blog.
Full disclosure: the big red wall in my entry has been doomed since last spring. At the beginning of the year is will don a coat of deep inky blue. Not exactly iris, but I see their point.
